21 June 2022: Biodiversity is still a niche topic in the German business. While energy efficiency and climate protection are prominent corporate goals in a growing number of companies,  for biodiversity it is much less common. In addition, the "business case" of biodiversity-oriented corporate management is much more difficult to present. Although, there are impressive examples of companies dealing intensively with biological diversity and successfully gain operational added value from this, these are still rather exceptions.
In preparation for a coaching sessions to be carried out in order to increase the importance of biodiversity in German SMEs, IHK employees who deal with the topic of environmental and climate protection are trained by the network partners Global Nature Fund,  Bodensee-Stiftung and other experts if necessary. With the training of IHK employees, the foundation is build for a sustainable IHK service on biodiversity for companies. The aim is to develop IHKs as "biodiversity competence centres for SMEs" all over Germany. The first trainings took place in Krefeld and Frankfurt (Oder). Others will follow.

The training courses for IHK employees and the coaching sessions are implemented within the framework of the project Unternehmen Biologische Vielfalt - UBi, which is funded by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation through the Federal Program for Biological Diversity with funds from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection.
