New publications on integrating biodiversity into business strategies: findings from the Private Business Action for Biodiversity (PBAB) project

Over the past six years, the global Private Business Action for Biodiversity (PBAB) project has been pilot testing and further developing instruments for the promotion of biodiversity-friendly production and commercialization, with specific activities in three partner countries – Brazil, India and Mexico. The project has implemented promising instruments and tools together with partners from the private and public sectors, with priority being given to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

01/10/2022: At the end of the PBAB project, there are several documents available sharing findings and lessons learnt:
  • The most relevant findings have been summarized in a global report in collaboration with the Global Nature Fund (GNF) and the Union for Ethical Biotrade (UEBT)

  • An analysis on promoting biodiversity-friendly production in SMEs by TRAFFIC, providing recommendations for upscaling methodologies

  • A case study on biodiversity-friendly spice production in India illustrating the benefits of using instruments such as the Biodiversity Action Plan in collaboration with the Global Nature Fund (GNF) and the Union for Ethical Biotrade (UEBT)

  • A case study showing how the multi-actor partnership "Initiative for Responsible Carnauba" - IRC in collaboration with the Union for Ethical Biotrade (UEBT) is helping to ensure a more responsible carnauba supply and supporting local communities and biodiversity in Brazil
The PBAB project was funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) as part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. Global Nature Fund (GNF) and the Union for Ethical Biotrade (UEBT) have been important partners in this effort.
