12/15/2021: A promising approach towards more sustainability in the spice sector is to promote biodiversity-friendly production and commercialization. The approach utilized within the "Private Business Action for Biodiversity" (PBAB) project is validated by the fact that there already are various examples in the Indian Western Ghats, which show that biodiversity-friendly spice production is possible: The spices can be cultivated in mixed cropping systems; and it is possible to reduce the use of chemical pesticides or to completely replace them with sustainable alternatives.

The new GIZ brochure which was co-developed by PBAB project partner Global Nature Fund (GNF) provides information about the project measures and results.
