In April, the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative Platform (SAI Platform) launched new Topic Guides to improve guidance and provide materials to support on-farm implementation of the Farm Sustainability Assessment (FSA).

Developed by SAI Platform members, the Farm Sustainability Assessment (FSA) is a tool to assess, improve and communicate on-farm sustainability. The FSA is based on a questionnaire addressing sustainability impacts and used by companies to source sustainably produced materials and by farmers to assess their farms’ sustainability. The recently released FSA Training Topic Guides help farm advisors and other professionals to better communicate about sustainable agricultural practices to farmers. A set of practical instruction materials will make it easier for farmers to become more sustainable, profitable and resilient.

The Global Nature Fund (GNF) and the Lake Constance Foundation (LCF), in the frame of the EU LIFE Food & Biodiversity project, authored the training content about biodiversity.

"We know both organizations, GNF and LCF, as very literate in terms of biodiversity in agriculture and are extremely grateful for their contribution to our biodiversity training materials. The protection of agrobiodiversity is a crucial step towards more sustainability in agriculture" says Joe Rushton, FSA Manager at SAI.

"Working with SAI Platform to develop the FSA training material on biodiversity has been an excellent opportunity for GNF and LCF to support biodiversity-friendly crop production on an international scale. The SAI Platform training materials are a great resource for food sector advisors to engage in dialogue with farmers and talk to them about the benefits of sustainable agriculture and the protection of biodiversity" - commented Marion Hammerl, President of GNF.
