Save Our Species Programme provides an opportunity for your company to protect threatened animals and plants and sponsor carefully selected conservation projects (IUCN scientific expertise). Based on your company`s needs and interests, marketing concepts to communicate the initiative to your consumers, employees and other stakeholders will be developed. For example, Nokia uses attractive SOS animal species content in their smart phone apps. Please watch our short introduction video about SOS: SHORT INTRODUCTION VIDEO
What if you could support wildlife conservation and the communities who depend on wildlife? Where would you start? What if you want to work with the world’s most renowned experts, who would you call?
The SOS - Save Our Species initiative harnesses the funding and technical expertise of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the World Bank, the authoritative science of IUCN as well as the resources and the ingenuity of the private sector to create a mechanism that channels much needed funding to species conservation projects where and when it will have most impact. Founded in 2010 SOS is a mechanism to help organisations meet Aichi Target 12 by acting strategically – thanks in no small way to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™, which informs SOS strategic directions by design, helping guide SOS calls for proposals. In short, SOS conserves, communicates and connects partners with nature, with other partners and with the conservation community.
To date, SOS has provided resources to help protect more than 200 species through 89 projects in 50 countries, funding more than 50 grantees. In many cases, without SOS grant funding, the projects simply could not have started. SOS funds work in the Americas, Africa and Asia protecting hundreds of species from threats such as wildlife crime, habitat loss and invasive alien species while also helping provide alternative livelihoods, funding re-introduction programs and emergency conservation measures.
In tandem with this SOS works to reconnect people with nature by communicating the successes, inspirational stories and images both online and through public events, believing in the inspirational power of wildlife and nature. In 2013 alone, SOS announced new investments in excess of US$2.5 million for nearly 30 projects managed by NGOs protecting an ever wider range of threatened species worldwide.
The partnership is open to all to join and support. Those interested to learn more can use the links below to read about SOS’ work and contact the team directly.
