Business and NGOs Bid for Biodiversity in Valencia Region
The first Regional Forum on Business and Biodiversity in Spain was held on March 23. It was organised by the Fundación Global Nature and the Ministry of Environment of the Valencia Region. Valencia, 25 March 2011 - Several batches of riparian forest plantations in L'Albufera Lake (€ 1,000), two of them acquired by Iberdrola, others by BBVA, ACUAMED, or the "Billion Tree Campaign” (UNEP); and other items, divided between several bidders such as the purchase of boxes for bats (€ 1,000), radio transmitters for the European pond turtle (€ 1,260) or a day of removing invasive species (€ 500) were acquired, exceeding expectations of companies and environmental organisations. The Landscape Auction was turned into a sociable event under the moderation of Mr. Angeles Centeno who handled the hammer at the headquarters of L'Albufera Natural Park.
During the morning, in a technical session between the corporate sector, NGOs and representatives of the Department of Environment more than forty members shared their biodiversity conservation actions and discussed future collaboration in this field.
The Regional Forum was attended by companies such as Iberdrola, Aguas de Valencia, ACUAMED, Saggas, Holcim, Banco Santander, VAERSA, Red Eléctrica Española, Comsa-Ezentis and NGOs including SEO/Birdlife, Acció Ecologist-Agro.
The first Regional Forum of Biodiversity, convened by the Fundación Global Nature and the Ministry of Environment of the Valencia Region, has met its expectations in terms of establishing partnerships between business-Government-NGO to promote conservation and biodiversity protection.
Some of the speakers which have participated were Joaquín Niclós, Manager of the Clean Technology Centre (CTL), where the technical session took place, Patricia Callaghan, (Head of Service of Integrated Pollution Control), Juan Jiménez (General Director for Management Natural Environment), Carles Gago (Biodiversity Service), Amanda del Rio from Fundación Global Nature and representatives from Companies giving examples on best practices such as Servyeco, Iberdrola, Lleiverda and Holcim.
