Developments in European Legislation
The European Union currently reviews the results from the last meeting of the CBD (Convention on Biological Diversity) in Nagoya, Japan, to integrate them into European legislation. It was decided to halt the loss of biodiversity in order to ensure that by 2020 ecosystems are resilient and continue to provide essential services. One of the goals in the strategic plan to reach this target is to reform subsidies that harm biodiversity to reduce the negative impact. In addition to the numerous voluntary actions companies can undertake, legislative requirements for biodiversity do also exist.
